World AIDS Day

Friday, November 21, 2008

December 1 marked the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. According to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, a total 94,367 people have died of the disease in New York City—but that figure doesn’t count 2007 or 2008.

The Blade’s editorial, here, includes more statistics about AIDS as well as information about the HIV Clinic at St. Vincent’s Hospital  Manhattan and its post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) program.

Read about the city’s first AIDS memorial here.

And an article here focuses on the U.S. HIV travel ban and other topics AIDS groups hope President Obama undertakes during his first 100 days in office.
