The Hazzards want you to “Shut Up and Make Out.”
At least, what they sing. Sounds good to me!

It’s with sadness and many fond memories that I write my final Hustle &
Bussel column. Don’t worry, I will still be out and about!
First, I want to highlight some of my favorite moments. I dearly miss Global
33 and Drag Queen Bingo, especially Mistress Formika, who rocked the DJ booth,
and Linda Simpson and Murray Hill, our esteemed bingo callers. I hope this event
will someday be resurrected because it was a great place to take all your gay
friends, as well as parents, families and curious straight onlookers alike.
Another favorite is the dancing, tassel-twirling stars of Starshine Burlesque
and Red Hots Burlesque, both weekly at Rififi, where each performance is different
and there just may be the chance for some audience participation. On Thursdays,
get to Rififi at 8 for the free and funny “Welcome to Our Week,”
where comics riff on the news: Last week, a John Kerry impersonator gave a campaign
speech, and there’s the continued reading from Britney and Kevin’s
“diaries.”
If the twice-weekly nearly naked ladies aren’t enough, check out some
very risqué history at the “Vamps and Virgins” pinup exhibit
at the Museum of Sex, complete with 3-D glasses and 19th century pornography.
Then head over to Tainted Lady Lounge and enjoy their delicious dinner or weekend
brunch — all while staring at 303 (yes, we counted!) boobs lining the
walls.
Speaking of Murray Hill, my favorite bachelor is hosting Le Tigre’s Halloween
and Nov. 1 shows at Irving Plaza and was off to help the band shoot a video
last time we corresponded. Look for Murray’s holiday show at P.S. 122
later this year as well. And it’s just been announced that riot grrrl
favorites Sleater-Kinney are playing on New Year’s Eve with Wilco and
the Flaming Lips at Madison Square Garden. Tickets go on sale next week.
Also on Halloween will be the “Divas and Deviants Party” at Lucky
Cheng’s, with performances by some of the city’s best burlesquers,
including the World Famous Pontani Sisters, the Dazzle Dancers’ Jo Boobs,
Twirla, Nasty Canasta, Scooter Pie and Fritzi Collins. You’ll also have
the chance to win $500 in their karaoke contest! As if that weren’t enough
spooky fun for you, Metropolitan is having a “Halloqueen” party
on the 31st and celebrating their two-year anniversary (my, how time flies!)
on Nov. 11 with an open bar from 9 to 11 p.m.
Schoolhouse Roxx is presenting a weekend full of Halloween madness, including
Jarboe on Friday,, Oct. 29, along with “go-go dancing monsters and strip-teasing
rodents.” See schoolhouseroxx.com for details.
I caught the Hazzards (ukesofhazzard.com) playing as part of Cocktoberfest
at Pianos on Monday, and boy are those girls, along with their glockenspiel
and harp band, adorable! The crowd loved not only their international hit “Gay
Boyfriend” but especially their covers of “Sweet Child o; Mine”
and George Michael’s “Faith” – on ukulele! These self-described
fag hags wear matching outfits and are cuteness personified.
Don’t miss them on Nov. 10 at Galapagos. Sadly, missing due to flu were
my favorite gay heavy metal rockers, Pink Steel, who I hope will be back on
their queer pink feet again soon to bring their “Sausage Party”
to a stage near you.
For the politically minded, Nov. 3 finds authors Tristan Taormino, Sarah Schulman,
Christopher Bram and activist Evan Wolfson at the Chelsea Barnes & Noble
to read from the newest of the gay marriage book bumper crop, “I Do/I
Don’t: Queers on Marriage.” Nov. 7, Cheryl B’s Atomic Reading
Series has Nicole Blackman, Jon Friedman, Ellen Miller and Felicia Sullivan,
a stellar lineup that’ll to pack Park Slope’s Lucky 13.
In the comedy world, don’t miss Claudia Cogan’s “I, Quit!”
at UCB Theater on Nov. 15. I think she’ll be urging us all to quit our
jobs. Actually, I don’t really know what she has up her sleeve except
that it’ll be hilarious. Next Thursday, don’t miss Mark Sam Rosenthal’s
monthly “Everyone Wins,” where he’ll be serving turkey and
debuting his new monthly format, with an interactive cocktail hour and Thanksgiving-themed
jokes. On Nov. 9, all-female comedy show “Chicks and Giggles” moves
to the delicious restaurant Raga, where you can feast on French-Indian fusion
food while Claudia Cogan, Giulia Rozzi, Ophira Eisenberg, Correne Kristiansen
and Michelle Maclay entertain.
Come celebrate my birthday and my new book “Naughty Spanking Stories
from A to Z” at Chelsea’s swanky Suede on Nov. 14 at 10. It’s
free and I’ll be bringing dozens of cupcakes: See rachelkramerbussel.com
for RSVP details and be prepared to get wild.
I’m sure you’re all already planning to hit the polls on Tuesday.
Later that night head over to Marion’s where if you swear you voted, you
get their free drink, the “Same Sex Marriage,” and if Kerry wins,
dessert’s on the house.
