NITE LIFE

From literati to litter
Midori is more sweet than sour; Bingo is the new black; Pink Ink reads well; Hillary’s book puts Monica in spotlight (& back on her knees?) .

LAST TIME I WENT TO THE MUSEUM of sex, the brilliant and beautiful Midori took us on a visual tour of the sexually dominant woman in history. This month there are plenty of Pride-themed lectures by various writers and activists including Julie Taddeo, Richard Berkowitz and Carol Queen. My friend Ellen Friedrichs (the only person I know who not only wears her glasses on a chain, but looks hot doing so) is the director of public programs for the Museum of Sex (www.museumofsex.com), and she’s brought us this hot ICON lecture series, curated by local party promoter Abby Ehmann.

Chelsea Barnes & Noble was packed with arty types to hear editor Meredith Broussard and contributors to “The Dictionary of Failed Relationships” dish on their own romantic mishaps. Amy Sohn looked particularly fetching as she read “Call-Hell,” and Maggie Estep, Elizabeth Benedict, Martha Southgate and Lucinda Rosenfeld were equally entertaining. The mostly straight book has a few spots of queerness, including Pagan Kennedy’s quest to become a lesbian and Dana Johnson’s story of a misguided threesome (which I’m sure we’ve all had at least one of). Head over to www.failedrelationships.com for a contest to win a Kiehl’s makeover to whoever has the best (or worst?) failed relationship saga.

After the reading, I had to rush off and do my monthly door duty at the play party Submit (www.submitparty.com), where the special treat of the night was a version of “Fear Factor,” SM style. All I can tell you about it is that it involved blindfolds, beatings and blow up dolls, and was very hot as well as hilarious. You never know what the gals will get up to at Submit, so be sure to check out the next one on August 7.

ON FRIDAY, AFTER HANGING OUT smoking apricot tobacco from my cousin’s imported hookah at The Gate in Park Slope, I continued my constant quest for more bingo by trying to go to Center Bingo. But lo and behold, it was sold out!

I had no idea that so many other shared my own bingo mania. Instead we feasted on Magnolia cupcakes and then found ourselves at the Riviera for a bit of drinking and people watching. I guess the lesson is — if it’s bingo, show up early!

The first annual Pink Ink, the queer book expo put on by the Publishing Triangle (www.publishingtriangle.org), saw panels on self-publishing and finding an agent, signings by authors such as Lesléa Newman, and the pink-themed cocktail party featuring drinks such as the Truman Kapinksky and Rita Mae Pink. Janine Avril and singer Mimi Ferraro braved the weather to head over to Brooklyn Pride.

Sunday was a gorgeous day, and after reading at Elise Miller’s reading series East Side Oral, we wandered around the Lower East Side, ate some juicy pickles from the vendors on Orchard Street, then happened upon the two-years-old-but-looks-brand-new bar Lolita (home of the new women’s reading series Cupcake), where I partook of a frozen margarita and we all drooled over “The Gossip’s” Beth Ditto getting down and dirty in the latest issue of On Our Backs, which any fan of foxy fat femmes must check out at once.

With the ridiculously overpriced Field Day Fest being downsized and moved to Giants Stadium, we were treated to some extra shows, including one by the always brilliant Elliott Smith. Wearing an “I Heart Metal” T-shirt, Smith places his usual host of love-gone-wrong songs, including his Grammy-nominated “Miss Misery,” along with plenty of old favorites. My friend Irena once said that she aspired to be “the lesbian Elliott Smith,” and judging from the total devotion of his followers, that sounds like a good plan to me.

BESDIES CONTESTS AND BINGO, I am a huge fan of gossip in all forms. So I am very excited about Remote Lounge’s new night of Star Gossip, where “patrons are invited to step up to the mike and share ‘star gossip’ including personal sordid encounters.” The next one is on June 26 at 10 p.m. and even if you can’t make it, you can e-mail STARgossipNYC@aol.com with your juiciest celeb encounters.

Remote is also playing home to an event that sounds bizarre but cool, Strange Bedfellows, which will be NYC’s first hip-hop fetish event, on June 25 — and it’s free. Make sure you get a flyer for it which features a perfectly shaped ass encased in a lovely harness.

With Hillary Clinton all over the news for her memoir “Living History,” I’m enjoying seeing lots more photos of my favorite Archive Building resident, Monica Lewinsky, in the papers. If you’re a Monica fan too, come hear me read my erotica story “Monica and Me” (fiction of course!) at Girlsalon at Meow Mix on June 18.
