NITE LIFE

From Babeland to bunnies
A hot new sex store opens in SoHo, Pink rocks drag queen bingo, and the Gothamist gets up close and personal at Remote.

September came to a sizzling end as Toys in Babeland outdid itself with its funest and fanciest party ever to celebrate its Soho store opening. As the staff wandered about in full glitter and glam mode, guests were treated to delicious blue cocktails made of vodka and an energy drink, along with a heaping table of food.

The store itself is much larger than its Rivington counterpart. We examined all manner of sex toys, from the goofy (think sea otter) to the delightful. Toys co-founders Claire Cavanah and Rachel Venning know what they’re talking about; their new book “Sex Toys 101” gives you the scoop on every sex toy under the sun.

And let me not forget to mention the gorgeous goody bag I received, filled with a tickler, a Hitachi magic wand attachment, and a dual-action vibe. Perfect!

The Big Quiz Thing’s trivia at The Slipper Room has almost replaced my Monday night love of bingo (though the recent spotting of singer Pink at Global 33’s Drag Queen Bingo might change my mind) as my team the Brainy Sluts inches forward in our quest to be number one and win the $200 prize.

My game-show-loving heart is thrilled that this coming Monday at 8 p.m., the special round is “The Price is Right.” It’s a well-spent $5, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to know at least one answer. Plus, you can have as many people on your team as you like.

The talk of Midtown last week was Mexx, the new clothing store that just opened on Fifth Avenue, a few doors up from its rival H&M. Well, more accurately, the buzz was about the search for their Mexxmates, the winning pair who’d be featured on a billboard in Times Square.

The instructions were a bit vague, but I was happy to note that same-sex couples (along with different-species pairs — one woman posed with her iguana!) were not banned from entering. In fact, I ran into a (straight) high school friend and her sister, who were semifinalists!

Local blog Gothamist, as well as Aaron of 601am.com, really knows how to throw a party — even if its happy hour was initially co-opted by humor paper The Onion. Hosts Jen, Jake and Aaron treated the crowd to fun prizes and my girlfriend and I treated the crowd to a little free strip show as I undid my bra (which claims to be a 36C but was definitely more of a B) and proceeded to give it to Kiki.

We fielded so many calls from the Remote Lounge console that we considered setting up our own business right from our perch, but managed to restrain ourselves. Photos of the event are floating around the Net, but you’ll have dig to find them.

Scotty the Blue Bunny’s performance at the Marquee was quite entertaining. I was in a bit of a bad mood to begin with. But sorry folks, demanding $11 at the door is $10 more than the much-advertised $1 admission fee, even with two drinks.

He walked on stage in tall clear high heals and a bestarred blue bunny outfit. He then channeled Sammy Davis. Jr., and regaled us with funny stories about what it’s like to be a six-foot tall gay bunny. His hilarious renditions of classic songs cracked us up.

I also got my dose of literary entertainment at Star Craving Mad author Elise Miller’s East Side Oral, where Peter Hyman regaled us with a tale from his forthcoming book, “It’s Not You, It’s Me: Dispatches From An Almost Hip Life” about looking for a threesome via Craigslist during a bout of unemployment.

If you’re looking for me this Saturday night from 5 to 7 p.m., I’ll be hitting a party that is part socializing, part politics, with lots of great food and all sorts of interesting coupling. It’s a house party for the Alternatives to Marriage Project (www.unmarried.org), a group which unites people who can’t marry (it has a large GLBT component) as well as straight people who don’t want to get hitched (or who just don’t like being pressured about it).

Learn more about this interesting group and meet people like the long-term triad we met last year, who are even co-parenting their two children. E-mail the group at atmp@unmarried.org or call 781-793-0296 for more information or the address.

Until next time, I’ll be pounding the pavement to find the best and hottest Gotham has to offer. See you around town!
